Our new house has popcorn texture that has been sprayed on the ceiling drywall and in some areas painted over. We want to remove this texture and replace it with an orange peel finish similar to the walls. Is there a trick to removing this texture other than just dry scraping?

Yep. The trick to it is wetting it slightly with a spray water bottle (such as with a Windex sprayer) until it is soft enough to scrape off with a 10" sheetrock blade. Put plastic on the floor and walls before starting. This is a messy job. Don't try dry scaping becuase you will definitely damage the sheetrock. Start the wwet scraping in an area that is not over a seam, until you get the hang of it. After you finish scraping it all off, then go back and repair seams and any torn places on the sheetrock. Good Luck!
