tommyo, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
The ones I have installed usually had room for a deep socket to reach the nuts. Did have one that I had to use an open end wrench on and it was a slow process (1/8th turn at a time). Good luck.

thanks majakdragon, i think i didn't state my problem right, the problem i am having is tightening the large nuts on the compression fittings that attach the sink drain pipe with the tail piece and then into the p trap...i can reach them with my hand and a rag, but can't get a channel lock on them to tighten, they're still leaking....i was gonna look for one of those strap wrenches, but not a lot of room there either...i have put other sinks in before, but always in a cabinet with a lot of room to reach these downpieces...i agree the lag screws going into the wall to hold the sink top are a test, but i used an open end wrench like you did,,, thanks for writing, tommyo

You are right. I didn't understand which nuts you were referring to. Not sure of the configuration of your pedestal but usually is more room at the top right at the sink. I usually made up all the joints I could before attaching it to the sink. That usually gave me a joint right at the edge of the pedestal to tighten. Other tool I have used is a Large Jawed basin wrench. Most you see in stores have small jaws made for the nuts on the sink faucet that are hidden up high. They do make a large jawed one though. Good luck.

Or you can jig up the drain assembly onto the pop-up drain and have only 1 nut to tighten, the marvel adaptor/desanko at the wall.

I always do it this way,,,,,,,,,guarantees me no leaks. So in other words, the sink is completely put together with drain setup, faucet installed along with pop-up rod.

With supply lines dangling from the faucet.
