View Full Version : Burner shuts off

I have a Carlin EZ-1 burner on my water heater. Every morning, I have to go down to my basement and hold down a little red button for 3 seconds, and the burner turns on. After a while, it starts to choke - it will stop burning, then burn a little, then stop burning, until the red light goes back on again and it is inoperable.

If I continue to hold the red button down, I can coax some life out of it and get it to heat my water in the morning. I believe that I need to bleed the burner, but I don't know how to do this.

If I have diagnosed this problem correctly, how do I go about bleeding a burner/this burner? If I have not, what can I do to fix this? Is there an oil filter that I need to replace?

Thanks!

It sounds like there is a blockage in the oil line. Either the filter is blocked or the strainer in the pump is clogged or the oil line is blocked. The burner goes off on safety because the flame goes out for 45 seconds. If you get the blockage cleared, it will probably run fine. It is important that on a water heater you have good oil filtration because the nozzle is very small.

As well as the remedies suggested it might need a new nozzle thrown at it too. When was the last time you had it serviced ???

It hasn't been serviced in a couple of years. Every time I go downstairs to start the thing, I end up looking at it and trying to figure out what I need to do.

I guess I need to have a pro come in and help me.

Unless you guys are familiar with any resources online that would assist me in the process with this burner?
