Decorating and Design - New teen bedroom

I'm a 15 year old girl and I am getting a new bedroom. I would like it to be a bit mod, like black, white and red. I am thinking about having Checkered walls, but i was hoping for a few more ideas. I am also into rock/punk and would like to incorporate this interest into my room.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

hmmmm..........punk? how does that type of music translate into a decorating style? colors or what?

what colors are you wanting to use in the checkerboard design on the walls? black & white? or red & black?

are your parents giving you complete license here?

I'm not sure how I want the punk to infulence my room....but it would probley be more in the accessories such as artwork or something. My parents are giving me complete licence right now to decide how I want my room and then we will discuss/compromise. I'm thinking of having black/white walls but am welcome to any more ideas. Maybe checkered would be to heavy to have so does anyone have any other ideas for some cool walls?

Go with one black or red wall. Black or red shades or valances on windows. Of course, bed spread & linens should have black, red, & white perhaps in a geometric or abstract design or just plain black or red. You are certainly going to need some chrome somewhere, such as a chrome & black chair. Look for chrome or stainless waste can. Perhaps a little neon lighting or rope lighting. A large unframed mirror on wall would look sleek. Of course, some posters of some of your favorite rockers are a must. Or, if you can frame a collage of concert tickets or flyers announcing concerts. Perhaps you have a T-shirt or two with a favorite band's name on them. T-shirts can be framed and can add to the atmosphere.

What you are looking for is a minimal decor with just enough stylistic touches to heighten the warm, laidback atmosphere you want in your room. Keep it simple with only the bare necessities and no clutter. If the dominant color is red, highlighted by a red-painted wall, you are looking for shiny accessories. Maybe a small chrome or stainless lamp with a glowing red light or red lava lamp would be a nice touch. A sleek shiny candle holder or two with white candles would be a nice touch. Furniture should have straight lines. If you go with a red wall, go with black carpet or vice versa. Remember it will be the punk rock accessories that play off your color scheme that will really look like a little punk rocker lives there.
