Recently my Toshiba 27CX21B stopped turning on. One night it was fine, the next morning when I hit the power button nothing happened at all, as if it wasn't even plugged in. I immediately checked the external connections and outlet's power, and that was all in working order. So I decided the TV was dead, and I need to fix it. I've always been someone who likes to do things for themselves, but I'm not really much of a TV guy, so I'm not sure where to start. Here is exactly what has happened:

The TV worked fine one night, and then the next morning it would not power on at all. No LEDs were lit. I unplugged it from the wall, and took it upstairs. Two days later I plugged it in just to see if anything had changed, but not expecting it to, and to my surprise the TV sounded as if it turned on for a second, and then immediately shut off. I could not see the picture since the TV was facing away from me at the time, but I did not hear any static or sound indicating that there probably was no picture. After that, I tried to manually power it on, and nothing happened, just as it did a few days ago. I unplugged it from the wall and tried plugging it back in, but this time nothing at all happened. At this point, I decided to begin my search on the internet, and that is how I happened upon this site.

So, if anyone can make any sort of guess as to what the problem is based on the information I provided, I would appreciate it greatly. If more information is needed, I can conduct any sort of tests necessary. I plan on opening the TV up tomorrow and taking a look around. On top of suggestions as to what might be wrong, does anyone have any safety tips? So far I have been told that when I open it up, I need to touch the filter capacitor with an insulated screwdriver a few times, and after that I can touch anything inside except for the HV line as long as it is unplugged. This came from a very reliable source that I trust, so I am assuming it is true. Can anyone verify this, and/or add anything else?

Thanks in advance for any help.
