My new addition is partially stucco. The finish coat is approximately two-weeks old. My contractor tells me that I should get a coat of primer on it as soon as possible to protect it from cracking. I have read an article that states the stucco should completely dry first, which could take 30 days to a few months. It says that unless dry, the water in the stucco could cause paint blistering and peeling. As this is the cold/rainy season I would think that it could take some time for the drying to occur. Should I prime and/or paint the stucco now, or wait a period of time? Also, would there be any harm in waiting? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

P.S. Since application, the stucco has turned from a dark gray color to white. Also, I live in California, if weather and temperature are factors. It is currently about 50-60 degrees during the day, 30-40 degrees at night, and it has been raining fairly lightly, off and on for the last couple of weeks.

I agree that you need to wait until its dry to paint, the moisture will cause havoc on any coating applied.
Either wait until you are comfortable its dry, or get a hold of a moisture meter, and test it.
