I don't have the master code (previous owner didn't give it) and have figured out that I have either a Vista 20 or Vista 20SE Control Panel. I connected ADT and theywere able to tell me this and to go with the newer model Vista 20SE instruction manual. I have downloaded the manual, but it is confusing. I would like to keep all the current zones and settings, just change the master code.

So under one part of the manual it says to enter into the program mode by either *+# after powering down or installer code 4112+800, if this does work, what then?

Another part mentions press *97 to load defaults, but does this mean that everything will be erased and even so how do you change the master?

The last part that I saw that was interesting was to enter the master code for partition 1 enter installer code +8+01+desired master code for partition 1. Same instructions for partition 2. What is partition 1 and 2 and would this reprogram the master?

Any help would be appriciated! Thanks

Once you get it into program mode, enter #20, and the panel will read back the installer code one digit at a time. Return to run mode by entering *99.

Use the installer code to enter a new master code.

Do _not_ default the panel! If you are having a little trouble interpreting the manual, you will have a very tough time reconfiguring all the settings. Eventually, you will probably have to go back into program mode to change the dialer settings (to turn them off, most likely), but read that section on programming carefully. It will make sense, just not immediately.
