I have a Rheem w/scroll heat pump that will not stop running unless I turn off the circuit breaker. The weather was about 60 today and the air was off all day. The crazy thing still ran and froze up all copper inside, the compressor, and a long skinny cylinder which on a car I would assume was an evaporator. The h/p makes cold and warm air. It just won’t shut off. Any hint to a solution would be great. JM

The contactor in the outdoor unit is probably stuck closed. Do you have a volt tester?
Remove the t-stat from the subase on the wall. If it stops, then it's the t-stat.. but if keeps on running. Check the wire going outside to make sure there is no short.
If you don't have a meter, remove the low voltage wire that feeds the contactor. if it still runs, then the contactor needs to be replaced.
If it stops when you remove, then you need to look at the t-stat wire for a short or in the furnace.
