For a finished basement should I put on the trim before or after the wall texture. I want the texture to be knockdown. If I put the texture first will it make the trim job harder because of the lack of a smooth flat surface or do I just caulk between the trim and and textured walls. Or, if I put the trim first will it make the texture job harder. What is the the way most people do it and why. :)

either way is acceptable. however, there are two downsides to installing the trim first:

1. you must completely cover all trim to protect it from the texturing process. This takes alot more time and effort.
2. the interface between the textured wall and the edge of the trim may appear abrupt and unnatural depending on the pattern of the texture.

Most knockdown patterns are sufficiently flat to accommodate trim quite nicely. If you elect to trim first, be sure to use a utility knife to gently score any texture overlayed between the protective trim cover and the wall. Otherwise the texture may be dislodged when you remove the protective cover, leaving a haggard looking edge.

You should definitely do the texture first, never seen it done the other way around on a new project. As was stated by the previous poster, you are creating alot more work for yourself if you do it the other way. Knockdown texture shouldn't create any problems with installing the trim and yes you can caulk the edges to eliminate any noticable gaps.
