Just started to renovate a house that has been in a flood. The house is built on a slab and has flooded 3 times in the past 20 years. I've been told what I should do for carpeting is to install a glue down with no pad. Next time it floods I can simply use a water extractor to suck the river through the carpet then shampoo. That keeps me from having to pull up the carpet and pad to dry it out. Any suggestions, Thanks

Ceramic tile and some nice area rugs. The area rugs can be taken outside to dry, and the ceramic tile will clean up well after flooding.

Cost is a major factor. The house will be sold or rented. Even though its a small house (860SF) our budget is even smaller :)

This is one of those cases of pay me now and pay me again later.

I say acid stain the concrete and buy carpet remnants as area rugs, big area rugs, if needed.www.acidstain.com

Gluedown carpet will also have to be replaced if it gets wet. You have to understand how tufted carpet is constructed.

You could put down some astro turf, with urethane outdoor adhesive. Make your own putting green!

So, even though cost is a major factor, Daniels suggestion of ceramic tile is less expensive, in the long run. It may cost more now, but you won't be replacing it down the road, as you would carpet or most any other floor for that matter.
It also adds tremendous value to your home, when you do sell.
