Does anyone have any expertise about a sodium Lamp. The bulb is good as it was tested on another fixture.

How do I determine if the small capacitor or what looks like a transformer is broken.

Is there a test procedure?

The capacitor is the cyclindrical part of this fixture, the best way to test them is with a multimeter. But if the ballast {transformer} in your fixture goes bad its best to replace both. Ballasts for this type of lighting come in kits with the ballast, cap,& mounting brakets. Ballast kits arent available for fixtures bought at H.D or Lowes.Does the fixture cycle on/off or not come on at all?

that the capacitor is shot. The unit is about nine years old. Bukb is still good though. They are rated at 24,000 hours. This light was set on a timer for 10 hours a night.

Tried to buy a new capacitor and was told they cost forty bucks. We have decided to convert the fixture to incandescent bulb. Thanks
