Hi everyone. I'm hoping to get a little humidifier help. I'm building a house through Ryland in Minnesota and I'm trying to figure out if I need a humidifier. I'm really not sure, especially because this is my first house and I've never lived in MN. I'll be moving there for a job.

The house will be about 2800 sqft, with a finished basement. We'll be putting wood floors into the main floor, as well.

My guess is that I don't need one, but I just wanted to confirm it with you guys, who are a whole lot smarter than I am. Thanks a lot.

Welcome to Minnesota! Where in Mn are you at? I am in Rochester... :-)

ANyway, As for a brand new home, you won't need it right away.. Lot of the new homes are pretty tight, so there is no drafty cold air drying out thehouse.

My parents just had a new house built last summer and the HRV ran alot this fall into winter to "Dry" out the house.

new home has lot of moister in the walls and other stuff. so the first winter may get by with out one.. Next winter you may need one since you will have hardwood floor.

It may not hurt to get one in right away while the home is being built, that way it's done and ready when you need it.

For the MN winter, make sure you control the settings.. If you don't want to change the settings, there are unit that has outdoor sensor, and will adj the humidty level with the out doors temp.

If you have the humdity level too high your windows will have water damaged, and other area in the home that may have cool spots.
