Hello:

I'm finishing up my bsmt, and recently noticed the individual register ductwork that is tied into the main supply duct is loose - perhaps not done properly. There is quite a bit of the "aluminum" plastered where the register ductwork ( 4" or 6" feeds) meets the main supply duct.

Before I drwall the bsmt ceiling, I would obviously like to remedy potential problems. I have the following questions/concerns

1. What is the proper method to connect lateral ductowrk into the main supply duct? Is is best to let a prop do it, or can a DIYER do just as good a job?

2. Is it acceptabe to use "aluminum" tape to secure the lateral ductpiping to the supply duct?

3. How long does "aluminum" tape last in HVAC applications, ie when it is used to seal two pieces of duct together that may carry both cold (AC) and hot (heat) air throughout the years?

Any help would be appreciated - thank u in advance.

Tom

Any good Hvac company there will have a" draw band" to fit the pipe. Ask for it. this way if a pipe is short you can slip it over and just tighten it up . Dont try and just use tape. there also are takeoffs that should be in the top of the duct that the pipes take off of. Post back for more ?????
