Thanks for providing a valuable forum.

I have a simple question. I am finishing my basement with wall to wall carpet and I am going to build a few built in bookcases and an L-shaped wet bar.

Should I build the built-ins and bar first over the concrete floor and then lay the carpet or carpet first and then put the built-ins on top of the carpet?

The carpet is going to have padding.

Thanks for any help.

With any other floor covering I'd say floor first then cabinetry, but with carpet (especially padded) I'd go cabinets (bar, bookcase, whatever) first and then carpet.

First because carpet would be an unstable base and second because someday that carpet will wear out.
