I have an oak toilet seat that needs to be replaced as it is fading and starting to crack. I have a new one reay to go on but no one can get the old on off because of the rusted bolts. The last plumber who was here to work on other things was afraid he was going to break the entire toilet. So what do I do? I have tried all of the rust removers and spray on bolt
looseners. Will the rust finaly eat through and break the bolts? I notice that the new seat has plastic fasteners fortunately.

Put on some safety glasses, get a drill and drill off the bolts that are holding the seat in place, may take you some time, but this is what I do when there rusted on and no other way to remove them.
You might even be able to drill down from the top down.

Cut them from below with a hacksaw, its the only way to get them off.

Hi Cathyann,
- an easy method that I always use in this case is to cut the bolts at the top with an angle grinder fitted with a thin cutting disc. Works every time and I haven't cracked a bowl in over 20 years of using this method.
Do it Right - Do it once.

use tabasco sauce yes you heard it correctly. After years of working on ships with rusted parts we have discovered that this is a very powerful fluid.
