The surround in our shower/tub is an atrocious fake marble that I would like to replace. As a cheaper alternative, I'm curious if it's OK to paint the surround. Is this an unwise idea, or is it just a matter of using the right kind of paint?

It is possible to paint this surface, but it requires chemicals, and a lot of equipment. Kinda expensive too (acid etch to prepare the surface, then a two part catalyzed paint) email me at XXXXXXXXX if you would like the full story, and I can point you in the right direction for the materials.

Tub surrounds do not require acid etching they require a complete cleaning and light sanding and epoxy paint[ this is all that is available to the homeowner]. The product in the depot is not too bad but replacing is just so much more of a wise move.

This assumes that the tub surround is some form of plastic as most are.
