Help! I now know that I need a new cartridge to fix my slow dripping shower head. But I don't know how to remove the old one. I live in a condo, so I'm not sure how the water shutoff works...I have a Kohler Coralais wall-mount single-handle shower. I have taken off the face plate(?) and there is a guard with holes on two sides; there are two slotted valve-like things set back in the wall through the two holes. Am I supposed to turn these a certain way to shut off the water? Or am I way off here? I really hope I don't have to ask the building maintenance to shut off the whole building's water!
I'm fairly certain that I can't just start unscrewing things without addressing this first...please help! Thanks

Those should be the shut offs to the valve, turn them to the right, to see it's shut off turn on water, if off at this time, it will be same to take valve apart.

Well, I tried that...I did test it after turning the stops all the way to the right and nothing came out of the shower head when I turned it on. But, when I tried to pull out the valve assembly, water started to come out so I had to screw it back in. :wall:

Thats odd that you had pressure in the valve since you had no water when you tried to turn it on with the stops closed. You might need to can in some help, thats all I can tell you.
Sorry you having this problem.
