Hello to all!
I have a question and was hoping someone can provide me with an answer!
I have a Technics---SA-EX700 receiver/Dolby Pro Logic/Analog
I have a Panasonic DVD player----DVD-rv30
The dvd player has a menu that shows "Digital Audio Output", when I open that menu it then says 1) PCM down conversion
2) Dolby Digital---Bitstream
3) DTS Digital Surround
Which one of these options should I select to obtain the best audio performance
my home theatre system can provide, keeping in mind that my recceiver is Pro Logic/Analog.
Thank You for your help,
Ricky

this reciever doesn't have any digital inputs. This means that you can't use your DVD player's digital output. You'll need to use the RCA outputs to the reciever's inputs.

The optical inputs will be small square's on the back of the receiver. A coaxial digital input will be orange colored, as opposed to red/white/yellow. Check this link for pictures: http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/howto-av.html

I could be wrong, so you can try these:

1) Dolby Digital
2) PCM-usually 2 channels
3) DTS

Hope this helped!

In order, best to worst:
1) DTS
2) PCM
3) Dolby Digital

However, it's not always as simple as selecting the best. Not only does your receiver have to support DTS/PCM, but your DVD player has to be capable of decoding it. This is not so with Dolby Digital (altough helpful.)

Then, on top of that, you have to use either Digital Coax or Optical cables for the audio from your DVD to Receiver.

If your DVD player and Receiver are DTS capable, they will have the DTS symbol right on the front.

It doesn't sound like your receiver is going to support DTS, and probably not PCM either - so I would say Dolby is your best bet.

Good luck!

His receiver doesn't support Dolby Digtial. Those options are only relevant if you are using a digtal cable.

If you can come up with a few hundred dollars for a new receiver with Dolby Digital you will dramatically improve your sound. It is a night and day difference.
