When installing an Aprilaire 700, what location is preferable?

Unfortunately, my supply plenum is not wide enough for the required opening. That leaves me a choice between the cooling coil housing or the return duct. What would be the advantages/disadvatanges?

Appreciate your suggestions. Thanks much.

The system is not going to work well on the return duct sine the temp is lower. The higher the air temp, the higher output you will have.

I would not suggest putting it on the coil housing since you may cut into the coil itself, and also the air flow is not good..

Be best to go with the by-pass system.. Unit itself on the return, and the by-pass cut to the supply duct above the a/c coil

Like the paper work said go for the cold air drop and be sure and tap into a hot water line for it . Also I forget the OT OT there and keep the jumpers on them.

I also do not have room on the supply duct.

I read the Aprilaire instructions. Is this (ie. install on return duct and use a hot water source) true for the Honeywell equivalent systems like the HE365?

I have considered the HE265 bypass unit, but am concerned that it is not large enough for my ~3200 square foot home. The HE365 services up to 4,000 square feet, but would have to go on the return duct.

Thanks!

Is it OK to install the control of an Aprilaire 700a on the bottom of a horizontal return duct? In other words it would be parallel to the floor above your head. There are problems with getting it on the vertical section of the cold air return. The humidifier itself is mounted on the cold air return and there isn't room above it for the control.

I have a 700 installed on my return side due to limited space with hot water. I am having trouble now but think it is more due to a leaky house or something. The first year it did work well (2500ft), probably not nearly as good as it would have on the supply side but it does work.
