View Full Version : Can't connect elbow to my baseboard?!

Hi all,

I bought a baseboard to add to my forced hot water system. It has a 3/4" tube. I have to turn it downward at the end, so I bought a 3/4" elbow.

Ok, no sweat, except...

The elbow doesn't fit! I notice that at the end of the baseboard, the tube actually widens out a tiny bit making the end of the tube and the elbow the same diameter. The elbow should fit nicely overtop the tube, right? Always has on every other plumbing job I've done...

Why is this, and how do I fix it?

Oh, one other thing...

I already elbowed ONE end of the baseboard. That one fit fine, even with that same increase in diameter which is on both baseboard ends.

I did notice, however, that the two elbows I bought have different model numbers, although they look identical.

No worries, all. Fixed it. I required a street elbow, and a little ingenuity, that's all. All done, two additional baseboards. Ah... heat... Nice and toasty on the ole Porcelain God now. :blah:

Good job. Sorry I didn't see the post in time to help you out. You did what was needed and I guess the manufacturers think that swedging one end will help us out. In fact, it makes it tougher. They usually swedge it to far and when you do put a street ell in it, it is a sloppy fit and is the most probable place for a leak.
