Non-directional abrasive finished metal wall panel

Has anyone ever used this technique? Basically it's making random patterns on metal wall panel with orbital sanders, wire wheels etc. If anyone has done this can you share tips on the abrasion process (wire wheel sizes/types, sanding disk grit, etc).

Depending upon your budget, you can just buy sheets already with patterns in it. Expect to pay $300-$600 a sheet.

Sometimes for what you'd pay for the metal, the discs, the machine to do it, etc, you could be at the same costs.

If the project is large consider metal laminated products. Yes, it is also made in stainless steel, aluminum & copper. To obtain the “fish scale” effect, purchase an abrasive disc from an automotive parts store. It is commonly referred to as a “cookie” due to its brown color and 2-3” size (use some imagination). It can be installed on a drill and the procedure is redundant. Start at the end of the panel, work from left to right overlapping half of the swirls with the current pattern. If the size is too small there is larger abrasive pads you can use. I do like the finish this produces. For small projects, you can purchase an adhesive tape called “space tape” due to its prismatic appearance. Once again, an automotive part stores.
