Quick question: When nailing base board trim to the wall, how much of a gap do you have between the floor and the bottom of the trim? I am not for sure what type of carpet I will be using. Thank for your help.

Hi usg2949,

Welcome to the forums!

While the experts in this forum may know the answer to your question, I'll bet the experts in the Carpet forum may have some insight as well. I'm gonna copy the thread to that forum, but leave a link to this forum too.

Depending on the thickness of the carpet(backing and face yarn), Nail the baseboard ½ that thickness, and no more then 3/8".

Over wood subfloors, nailing base tight on the wood subfloor has been the cause of squeaks I have chased, until I figured out the floor flex, was rubbing the baseboards.

I use 1/2" thick spacer blocks to hold the base in place while I nail it off.
