I am re-habing an older house and plan on gutting and re-doing the bathroom in about a year. However, I'd like to add a shower for the time being. This is a standard tub, not clawfoot. The existing fixture doesn't offer a shower so there's no riser or anything. I'm thinking of getting a new spout that has a diverter built in that has an outlet on the side. Will it work if I rig a riser to this side outlet and put up one of the wrap around shower curtains? I plan on doing the job correctly when I re-do the room, but I'd like to have a shower between now and next year.
I guess I'm asking if this sounds like a workable plan or if I should just go ahead and install a new faucet and riser the regular way.
Thanks,
L

I have not seen a spout with a diverter and outlet on the side like you described. Think I would just put the proper set up in now. Good luck.

Here's a link to one that I've seen;

I've found others too. I'm guessing though that their reliablilty is questionable, if you're not aware of them.

It will work just fine, I have one in my extra bathroom. It was a great solution for me because I didn't have to open up the wall and added an extra shower. I used the shower head with the flexible hose. Good luck

Learn something new everyday. As long as you are using it for a temporary application it would probably do well. Then when you redo the bathroom you can look for what you really like. In your situation, I'd go for it. Good luck.
