Am working on our 300 yr old Salt Box house. South side peels every 7-8 years, original siding, dozens of coats of every kind of paint. Any suggestions on how to remove all the old paint - scraping takes forever. Would a rotary sander be advisable? Don;t want to take off too much wood. We are in an historic district. Siding has lots of cracks and loose antique nails that I reset constantly.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I would consider replacing the siding with the same thing that's there (4"redwood lapsiding ?). Doing one side may not cost to much. Plus you could insulate before you put it on.
