In my shower, when I pull the diverter on the spout, half the water comes through the head, half through the spout. How should I fix this? Replace the whole spout, diverter and all? Will that definitely solve my problem? Could it also be the head?

Not likely that it is the head. When you are ready to remove the spout, look under it for a slot. If there is a slot, there is a screw in it that holds the spout onto the supply pipe. If no slot, it screws on. Make sure the internal threads are the same distance on the new one or it will either be away from the wall or won't tighten up enough to stop leaks. Good luck.

Yes. Nothing else would cause the problem you are having.
