I have an area about 4 ft. long that had left loose along a joint near the center beam on the cathederal ceiling. I got up thru an access panel in the closet of the master bedroom. It appears as though the rafters rest on the outside wall and are hipped to the center beam. It also appears as though the ceiling tiles (long panels of light weight material like 12" blocks) are suspended from furring strips that run 90 deg. to the rafters. The problem is I can't find and hit those buggers to save my life. I've tried using a studfinder but alway miss the fur strips anyway. I mark where the light lights but the drywall screws go into nothing. What am I doing wrong and what should I be doing? Thanks in advance for any help.

Almost sounds like the grid wasn't laid out correctly on 12" centers both ways so there's nothing to attach to. Just a guess, good luck.

jack,
sometimes drilling test holes with a very thin drill bit is the best method for finding strips..
