I have a Sony Trinitron 68cm TV.
I recently turned it on and it had some funny lines across it (horizontally) and then it turned itself off.
I found a thread on this site describing the problem and that a H-hold or V-hold chip was shorted. I have a picture of the chip I think it is. If any1 would be so kind as to confirm this as a H-hold or V-hold chip I would appreciate it.

I'm not sure which chip you are suspecting in that picture:

bottom right: flyback transformer (big black)
bottom left: degause connector
middle: diodes and capactors
top right: horiz output Transistor.

Sorry, the chip in question is the one with an 8 on it.

Some kind of Diode.

Can you tell us the markings on the mainboard for that particular diode (I can't tell if "D80" is for that part or not)
also the model/chassis # for your TV.
we could probably get you a part number if you supply us with that.

Under mainboard where burnt out picture (http://www.bpatw.com/UnderTV.jpg)

I can't really tell which one it is either looking right at it.
My guess is probably EY107 as it is the number closest to the diode on the top, but on the bottom it looks like CN811, as per picture above.

I also noticed another "burnt" looking chip on the board closest to the tube which looks like "L1761"
Chip near Tube (http://www.bpatw.com/tv_tube.jpg)
I cant get a clear picture of the top of the board due to its location.

Thanks heaps for your help, it is fantastic!

Sorry
Chassis No I think is "Y/C Jungle" or ">PS<R4-048-689-"

Model No is "KV-T29SZ8"

"APP No 15611"

Sony Trinitron 68cm TV

Dont know if this will help. Thanks

From the slight description of your symptoms, I question whether you are in the right spot. The first check I would do is to unplug the CRT board from the tube (eliminates shorted tube). In the pictures you are showing, if those parts fail , normally the set is DEAD not lines.
