My contractor described a system to suspend sheetrock from a grid and wire system in place of ceiling joists. Anyone know where to locate such a system?

Back in the day we used to use hat track. But now they have a great grid system that snaps together. It look a lot like a drop ceiling. You should be able to get it from a large drywall supply house.

USG has some real nice systems available these days. If you will click on the link I've provided below & then scroll down towards the bottom of the page, you will see a link to info on their systems for curved & flat ceilings. You need Adobe Acrobat reader to view the product literature & photo links. Have seen the system being installed first hand on a commercial site I stopped by visiting a partner of mine that works for a large co out of StL, MO. Stuffs goes up quick and looks good!
Here's the link to their product page http://www.usg.com/Product_Index/_product_index.asp?vProdCat=25&vFamily=2&vGreenLink=25
I'm sure other manufacturers have similiar systems available as well, as Coops said check with you nearest drywall supply yard.

Glad we could help, but the systems you're looking at are a bit pricey. Good luck with your project and try to stay warm up there in God's country! -6 brrrr
