I want to install a powder room in my basement but cannot decide the best choice for a toilet. How much odor is ejected from a composting toilet's vent? There is a deck where the vent would most likely discharge. How reliable are sewage ejector toilets -e.g. should I plan on replacing the pump / impeller every few years, etc. Finally, is it practical to install a toilet in the basement on a pedestal so that a plumbing discharge pipe can be tied into the septic field? If so, how much of a slope is required for acceptable flow of the toilet waste? Thanks.

kirkwood1, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
Not sure you can place a vent pipe under a deck. Most have to go up through the roof. That would be a local code question. Don't really think you would want it there anyways. Stink is stink and only determined by what you put into it.
I have no experience with the sewage ejector toilets but I would check warranties on whatever you would be buying and also availability of parts.
You can install a toilet on a pedestal. The slope is 1/4" per foot. If the toilet is not within certain distance (codes again) to the drain pipe then you would also have to run a vent pipe for it.
Good luck on your project.

Hi Kirkwood and Majakdragon,
- it's quite common up here in Canada to have a mini septic tank in the basement. This is a 50 gal plastic bin with a tight sealing lid which is set level with the basement floor. The bin contains a small sewage pump with float switch and check valve, piped up to the main drain. A conventional toilet is plumbed into this . I've installed a few of these, usually quite easy, bearing in mind you do have to Hilti throught he concrete pad.
