You know those 1' x1' vinyl tiles Armstrong sells?

Can anyone think of a reason NOT to use those as a ceiling (stuck to drywall already there)?

I know it sounds dumb, but I think I may have found a creative solution to a problem.

Only reason I can think of is that, at least in my opinion, the glue on the self stick tiles isn't real great, and may not even hold the weight of the tile over time. Since we're talking about it, I guess you could use floor adhesive, but again it may not hold until it's dry, and in the mean time you'd have to have a way to hold the tile up and in place.

Just thought of another possibility. The weight of the tile, even if the glue held, may pull the paper off the drywall. I've never heard of the weight of PAINT causing this to happen, but tile may. It's just a thought.

They are used for fire code and moisture areas all the time.

Really?! So, my "creative" solution is actually common?

jproffer, I had those same thoughts and is why I am hesitant, but leaning towards it.

Woooops. After reading the post again I see I was mistaken. First time for everything :blah: I thought you ment the pre vinyl ceiling tiles. But anyway, like has been said, if you get them stuck on good enough then why not?

Saw an interior decorator do this on TLC (either While You Were Out or Trading Spaces). Anyway, they used liquid nails to get the tiles to stick and, yeah, they had to hold each one in place for a bit ;)
