I'm putting in a new acrylic tub in the second floor bath. Is there anyway to hook up the tup drain to the p-trap without cutting through the kitchen ceiling to get at it?

Do you have an axcess panel that gives you axcess to the plumbing for the tub? These are usually in a closet, in a bedroom wall, outside wall of building or in the ceiling.

If you do not have a axcess panel, you will have to cut a hole somewhere in your residence to axcess the drain / overflow assembly so you can tighten if to the p/trap.

Is there a closet next to your bathroom? You could cut a hole in the drywall to expose your plumbing, hook up your new tub / drain and install a new axcess panel when you're done. Even if you had to do this in a bedroom wall, a new axcess panel would look better that a hole cut/repaired in your ceiling.

If you use a tip toe drain assembly, one that is all glued together, and you set trap at proper distance off wall and is all abs/pvc your working with, with proper measurements one can set a tub without opening wall or ceiling.
