Hey Folks
I have spent the last 40 minutes or so going through your forums, but can not quite find the answer I'm looking for------=Hope you can help me out!!!!
I have a new tv ordered--c/w 1 set of component input
1 s-video input and 2 sets of composite inputs
I have a switch box with composite and s-video inputs and out puts
! jvc vcr with composite and s- video
1 panasonic dvd with component out
1 satelite receiver
1 Technics sa-ex700 analog/pro logic with various composite input and outputs---no s-video---no component connections.
Can I run component out from my dvd directly to the tv and then run dvd audio out from dvd to the receiver.
If so can this be done with my vcr and satalite dish.
Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks---ricky

It sounds like your receiver/tuner does not support video switching (if it has a yellow RCA plug next to each red and white plug, then it may support composite only video), so you'll have to use it just as an audio receiver/switcher.

So, yes, you'll want to connect the DVD player via Component Vid, the Satellite via S-Vid (if possible) or Composite (single RCA) and the VCR will have to be Composite. Unless you want to record the Satellite on VCR tapes, then you need to run Composite from the Sat to the VCR too.

That should do it. The audio should be pretty straight-forward. If you have an optical or coax audio in on the receiver/tuner, then you'll want to connect the DVD player there. That will give you optimum audio and video on the DVD player.

Good luck!

Hey Brandon
Thanks alot for the help!!!
The receiver is about 6 years old so as you say probably not capable of video switching.
I think things are clear now so basically I can run all video to tv and all their audio to the receiver, I would just have to select the appropriate input on receiver to get the sound. Is the correct?????

You got it! The receiver is just going to do audio switching for you - no video.
