Please help! We have just finished 2 coats of 'red brick' on the walls of a bedroom with a cathedral ceiling and there are lines and streaks everywhere. After the third coat today... I was thinking of 'fauxing' but need some suggestions on how to correct/cover this mess.

if you want to keep the room basically a more-or-less solid dark red, but feel that you'll never achieve a smooth, perfectly solid finish, try this: get a faux painting roller that's divided into 2 small rollers on one handle (or you can go the rag-rolling or sponging route, but that's more work). then using the original red color, plus another color that's 2 shades darker (or lighter), blend the two together on the wall. the divided roller lets you load each side separately with each color, and you apply them to the wall, but blend them together on the wall. the effect will be very subtle, but will give you an aged look with nice depth. ragging or sponging will be similar looks. the more you work the paint on the wall, the more blended the colors become, and the softer the look will be. blend as little or as much as you like.
