I wanted to increase the size of a bedroom by incorporating a huge walk-in closet, and also use some area from an adjoining room. I removed the wall between the two bedrooms, and the wall between the walk-in closet and the other bedroom. Everything has been removed except two 2X4's (top plate) that have nails sticking down. I can't figure out how to remove those without tearing up the ceiling. Also, how do I support the edge of the sheetrock ceiling that used to be supported by the wall sheetrock. I did check with the guy that built our house, and he said there are no interior bearing walls, because it's a truss built home. My husband is stressing out and said "call a contractor" because I did it while he was at work, and he isn't a handyman!! I just want to be sure I won't pull the whole house down if I cut the 2X4's and pry them off the top.

Besides the plates there will also be some backing to hold up the ceiling drywall to deal with. If you just start pulling it will damage some of your ceiling. You will also need to cut the top plate at the wall since it is most likely running over the top of the wall. You will definitly need a sawz all and a large pry bar. And watch out for all the blown in insulation that will fall on your head  Now after all of that is out, you are will have to patch the ceiling in and match any texture you may have. Take your time and post back with any questions you may have. Good luck.
