Our GE spacesaver microwave (model JVM1660) is only about 3-4 years old and has worked wonderfully until today. I used it this morning but then it just went completely dead after I turned it on. The outlet tested fine so it isn't a breaker but nothing worked on the microwave, not even the light inside or the clock or display or over the stove lights on the bottom of it.
My husband unplugged it a couple of times and then a few minutes LATER the display came back on and it started working again. We used it one time and it worked fine but now all the lights and display works but it doesn't heat anything.
What could this be and should we be concerned about electrical problems with it and is it safe to continue using???
Thank you!

Normally when they go completely dead it's because an internal fuse has blown. It sounds like the fuse might be loose. Additionally, on the GE's, when they quit heating it's often because the power module has failed. The power module is separate from the circuit board and can be replaced without taking the MW down. However, be aware that microwave ovens have a HIGH VOLTAGE capacitor that can really hurt if you place your hand in the wrong place.

Alexis,
I had the same issue just occur tonight and found this thread when searching the problem. Please let me know how you fixed, if you fixed your microwave. Mine does the same thing...everything works as normal but it does not heat up. Prior to that, it made a buzzing/popping noise behind the control panel and now it does not heat anything up.
Let me know what you did to fix your problem. My email is: James.Flanagan@adelphia.net. Thanks!
Thanks!

Apparently there is a recall for the magnatron in that model. Warrenty is good for 10 years. Search the net for 'recall JVM1660'.
