Hi,
I just moved to a house and the humidifier does not seem to be working. It is a Generalaire Power Humidifier 81 that requires 24V, and it is wired to G and C in the Trane XE 90. I checked and it does not seem to have 24V there at any time, is this the proper wiring ? The 24V 5AMP fuse in the trane circuit seems to be ok, and the heater/fan are working OK. I can't find the installation manuals for the trane xe90 anywhere. Any advise is welcome.
Thanks,
CGA

The wire on G and C on the furnace board will not work for the humidifier.

You should have a sepperate transformer for this set up. Not use the furnace's.

Chances are you may have a HUMID screws on the controlboard, from there, you hook up the power for the transformer for the humidifier.

There is no transformer between the humidifier and the connection to G and C. Are you talking about connecting a 24V transformer to the 120V HUMID output ? My guess is that the humidifier was working at one point using the C G connection, and that the people that installed it decided not to install the transformer, but connect it directly because the furnace has a 24V output in C G......why is that C & G won't work ?

The G on the control board is the Fan control, and C is common side.

Only time G is powered up is when you turn the T-stat fan switch to "ON", and also when you have a call for A/C.

On some unit, "stealing" powere off the control may over load it, and may blow a fuse, or the board/transformer.

Be best to put in a spperate transformer for the humidifier along with a fan relay or sail switch. If your control board has a "HUM/HUMID" screw, then tie it to that, and no relay or sail switch is needed.

I dont recall what the Va is on the transformer there in that Trane. But the best way to go here now get a new transformer 40Va with110V in 24 V out . A A-50 current sensing relay. Wire them in then when the blower comes on the humidifier comes on. That General Aire you have is rated at 18.0 gal per day on 24V. Have you looked on the blower door most of the time there is a wire schematic down there.
