I recently moved into a house with three fireplaces with gas starters. They all have the gas pipes with the holes pointed almost directly to the floor of the fireplace. I would think they should be pointed facing up. Does anyone know if this is correct? If I need to adjust the position of the gas pipe what type of repair person would do this kind of work?

scl140, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
I would start by calling a fireplace shop. They should be able to tell you at no charge. My thinking would have to be that facing down would keep things from falling into the lighter. But I am no expert in this field. Good luck.
