View Full Version : 3.5hp briggs and stratton question
i have a briggs engine. 3.5hp model 91232 and its brand new. i put it on a mini chopper. i know the more rpm out of an engine the faster your going to go cause thats just the faster that the wheel i moving. 3.5hp is reached at 3600 rpm and max torque at 2800rpm and i have heard that max recomended rpm on this engine is 4000rpm but im not sure cuase they arent professionals with small engines. i got a tach for this to know where my rpm's are at and know when im overrevving but i dont know where overrevving point is. so the question i have is what is about the recommended max rpm for this engine??
Thanks

RPM is a trade off. The rpm recommended by Briggs will give you a long trouble free life. Removing the govenor will give you more rpm and a higher top speed but at the expense of engine life.

they can handle revs upto 5000 rpm +
takes alot of tweaking... when i was younger i use to race open wheel carts
with honda engines, a group of us would get togeather every weekend
at a track, most of us had the engines planed, "higher compression"
and add octance additive to the fuel. where the gas was normaly about
80 octane level, we'd dump enough in the tank to make the octane level
in the gas about 180 :D
it made a big diffrence, between an engine that laboured from a stand still.
to a motor that rev'ed out and pulled hard in the corners.
at the end of the season i did blow a head gasket,
you could see little bits of it blowing out the side... still raced it..
gaskets are cheap ;)
