Please help:

My kirby G4 vacuum was working great until one day it became very loud - extremely loud. It sounded like the motor was running too hard (as if a belt was missing). So, then with it running loud it would turn off on its own. I tried turning it back on, and again it turned off ... finally it wouldn't turn on at all. So, I opened it up to look for a loose belt, but everything looked connected. Once put back together, I turned it on again and then nothing happened - no noise, no power. The white, plastic gears (inside) moved a bit, but vacuum wouldn't turn on at all.

I have a feeling the original problem was a result of vacuuming up dog hair (I have 2 huskies), but I always kept the roller clean of hair . If anyone can suggest a cause for the problem, which part is burned out, a way to fix it or a better vacuum for dog hair ... please relpy. Thanks

If it was *really* loud, then it could be a broken fan. Check to see if the fan is broken or cracked. That doesn't answer the shutoff issue, though.

I believe that the Kirby G4s and up have thermal cutoffs. Not completely sure about that and I don't have any schematics in front of me. When the vacuum gets overheated, the cutoff should shut the vacuum down to avoid serious damage to the motor. If the cutoff is activating, the vacuum could be clogged or the bag severely over-filled. Since you mention the huskies, clogging is a real possibility.

If it is clogged, clean it out by hand as much as possible and use a shop vac to get any remaining dirt. Replace the bag if it is full. Once the obstructions are clear, there should be a button or switch to reset the thermal cutoff.

Report back and let us know your progress. Best of luck.

The Kirby DOES NOT have a thermal overload it soundls like the Copper Bearings in motor overheated and my have burn up now why i did that just guessing w/o seeing it the fan and/or Beater Bar jammed with hair, or something obstrucing the fan from turning at the correct RPM

Hi ,
Ive just happened accross this forum whilst searching internet for kirby help.
Wonder if anyone has any tips on how to change the fan on a heritage ?? I have bought new fan and disasembled kirby but peoblem is that the "blades" have all broken on fan (coin got lodged in assy and stripped it!!!) so there is nothing to grip to remove the belt spindle and allowing release of the fan!!!

Any tips on how to best remove it please
