View Full Version : Cedar Deck Painting?

After removing (pressure wash & sanding) most of the latex paint and some of the oil primer from the cedar railing on my deck. Is it OK to stain it with Sherwin-Williams "Solid-Color Stain"? Or do I need to do additional preping?? Will this stain adhere to the remaining primer??

Any help is greatly apreciated!!!!

The stain should bond to the primer but be advised that it will take two coats of stain to ensure a uniform look. The stain will penetrate the raw wood somewhat and tend to look like paint on areas that have primer.
