Hey everyone!

I'm new so bear with me. I have a decent size bedroom on the 2nd floor with 3 a/c vents coming into the room, but no return in the bedroom. The return is in the hallway. I could add vents above the door i know, but don't really want to b/c of sound and how well it will work.

Just to verify:
-In between studs on a wall, can I just cut a hole at the top and the bottom (for winter / summer)
-Cut a hole at the top of the wall through the 2 X 4.
-Put some type of attachment where the cut out is.
-Run a duct from the top of the wall to where the return is.
-Cut into the top of the return wall and attach the duct i ran from the other wall.

Would that work?

TIA!!!

Id say I think so. Any duct up in the attic has to be unsulated. thats alot of work to try and curt the 2x3 plates out now. Can you cut the bottom of the door off some?? Are cut say a 6x14 hole for a grill low in a stud space in the bed room and cut one high in the same space out in there in the hall for the 6X14 grill there. this would let the air out of the bed room for you.

Thanks for the response ED!

When you said:
"thats alot of work to try and curt the 2x3 plates out now"

Did you mean to cut the 2 X 4 thats running at the top of the wall? Is there usually more than 1 at the top of a wall? I know it still wouldnt be fun though.

I would do this:
"Are cut say a 6x14 hole for a grill low in a stud space in the bed room and cut one high in the same space out in there in the hall for the 6X14 grill there. this would let the air out of the bed room for you."

-but my stair case goes down right outside the door and there is a hall wall on the other side.

If I do follow through with the initial plan, do you think I would get some decent suction although I'm tapping off the top of a large return duct?

Thanks!
