I bought a home which has an Ademco Vista-20HW system. I was given the user code, but not the master. How do I reset the master code?

Thank you in advance for any assistance you are able to offer.

Ok, 6128 is the keypad model. It is used on nearly all ademco based systems.

We need the control model number, as this brand has significant differences from one model to the next. It will be either on a diagram on the inside of the control box (the beige box where the battery resides) door, or on a sticker on the center of the PC board inside.

Ms. Joan D. Vinge,
Thank you for your response.

At the bottom of the diagram, inside the control panel, it says Vista-20HW. The sticker on the PC board has 20HW.

In a typical installation, the code that you have likely _is_ the master code. To change it, you need the installer code. The easiest way to obtain it is to disconnect the battery, then disconnect the power from the ac transformer. Wait a few seconds, then reconnect power. Within 50 seconds, on any keypad, press * + # at the same time. The panel should come up in programming mode. Press #20: The sequence of 4 numbers that comes up is the installer code that you need to change the master code. Press *99 to return to run mode.

To change the master code enter: install code + 8 + 01 + 4-digit code desired.
This set of keystrokes must be entered with no more than a couple of seconds between keystrokes, or the panel will ignore you.

There is a small chance that the panel has an installer lockout feature enabled, and there is a way around that, but try the steps above first.
