My house is only about 4 years old, but for some reason the builder didn't vent the range to the outside or place the range on an outside wall. I would like to mount a new hood from the cabinets above the range and run the duct up through the cabinet (its small and virtually useless for anything) into the crawl space (2 story house) and out between the joists about 5 feet. How hard would it be to run duct through this enclosed space?

Thanks

crkscrw1, Welcome to the DIY Forums.
I am not one of the experts in this forum. I would make sure that when selecting a range vent that you insure how much air can be moved (cfm's) and what the manufacturers recommendations are as far as length and configuration of exhaust ducts. Each 90° elbow you put in the line impedes the flow. You are also dealing with grease or oil that the filters do not catch. Check these items carefully before you buy. Good luck.

The best way to go here Id get a vent hood that has a 3 1/4"X 10" vent out let this is duct that you can buy and put in yourself. Up into the attic it would be best to vent it out of the roof .But yes you can run it over to the over hang with a 90o and vent it down out of there. Dont forget you do need a flip damper up there on the roof or over in the over hang.
