My maytag has been leaking through the bottom. I replaced the black o-ring gasket at the bottom of the basin with a used one from a WU202 but it still leaks really bad. I am ordering a new o ring tomorrow. But the used one I put in seems to be in excellent shape. Is there anything I need to know about putting that o-ring in? Do I need to use a lubricant/sealer of any type. Also, the six screws that go around the main plastic part that tightens the seal to the bottom of the basin could be worn out? They each have a rubber cone-ring at the top of the screw. Also, I can't get the screws very tight without that speed nut slipping. How tight should I put those screws in? Thanks.
Lou
Hi BigL,
- for almost all modern 'O' rings you should use Dow-Corning 111, it comes in a tube like toothpaste, available at some auto supply and some tool supply places. In the case of your screws here, I would put a small swipe of "Plumbers Goop" (available HD ) under the heads, on those cone washers.

Nomind,
Are you sure I should put goop around the seal? It is permanent, and will it hold up inside of a dishwasher during cycles?
Hi BigL,
I've been using it to seal washers, etc for a couple of years and found it to be good enough to hold up in watery conditions, yet not so permanent that you can't remove it carefully when necessary.
