I have a Maytag electric dryer, Model DE590 that seems to be taking forever to dry our clothes. I've checked the hose and air flow - which seems to be more than adequate. My next thought would be a thermostat of sorts - I checked with a local appliance repair shop and they said their are four (4) different thermostats on the dryer - which one should I start with? I don't think it would be the high-limit thermostat (but I could be wrong). Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Hi KA,
- simplest way to start is checkout the entire air tunnel for obstructions. Next, check the heater coils, it may be that part is not working, this happens sometimes

Additional Suggestions, Prior To Repairs:
Hello: KAveritt
The exhaust hoods built in flapper door may not be opened, opening fully or only partly opening. Check that item too. Too meaning even though you cleaned/checked the exhaust system. Which does not indicate that an obstruction still does not exist.
Been to many homes and businesses where the system was "Checked" to no avail. Owner said cleaned venting system, did that & done that, found nothing. Still had restrictions, etc. Double check. Also check and clean entire inside of the machine and it's venting system. All B-4 suspecting part failures.
Also try this. Totally remove entire venting system from the dryer. Dryer one load without it attached and note any differences. To all readers, etc. Doing this one simple test is worth while. If the clothes dry normally and it normal time, the venting system is still restricted and or blocked up, etc.
And NO! Drying one load without any venting system will not cause any harm to the machine and or any person. No causes for alarm...you will not die of C.O. poisoning, breath excessive fumes, etc.

Thanks for your replies...a little bit more about my setup: the dryer vent goes straight thru the wall about 12". I checked the outside discharge air and it seemed to have sufficient air flow. I'm thinking it's either a coil or thermostat, but not sure where to start. Your responses are greatly appreciated! Thanks!!
