i am planning to use a pass through grills above the bedroom doors. return vent in each bedroom are required by florida law. what size opening would be required for a 14` x 16` room?
I honestly would not know since that is not done that way here in Minnesota, all returns are tied right to the ductwork itself.
Ed may know he's from your neck of the woods. Otherwise, check with your local codes.

What part FL are you in? I know of no code for a cold air return in every room down here at all. But check where you are. they just put in 1300 homes by me and just one return per unitis all.Yes it will give you a better job for sure.What size pipe feeds the room there should tell you what you have to let out. Id cut the door bottom to clear the rug by 2" first works fine.
