My wife noticed there was no power when getting ready to cook.
The unit is a Kenmore 911.4252990 4 burner drop in unit. I went to the breaker box & the breaker (40 amp.) was tripped. Tried to reset a few times, but nothing. Underneath the unit houses all kinds & shapes of pots & pans, usually jammed in anyway possible! I noticed on the back wall is a junction box with the conduit(?) running to this box from the cooktop. It looks like this box has been jammed a few times (from pots & pans being shoved in!)
and looks like the conduit connecter? (pipe that encloses the wires) possibly has unscrewed from the junction box-- I'm not sure if it is supposed to screw in, but there is a space where I can see some wires right outside the hole, can't tell if they're attached inside the box --(they're not loose) but wondering if this could be something to consider. Don't even know what's in the box, is there a plug to check or any other basic things I can look at?(Don't have any meters, etc.) I could change the circuit breaker out, have done so before but not sure for what appliance.
Also when doing any of this I always turn off all the breakers in the box just to make sure. Am I (relatively safe) doing this i.e.working in breaker box & possibly junction box, any tips or cautions appreciated. For instance should I wait a certain time after electricity off to begin, etc.
Thanks so much for your help!
