hi, I recently decided to build an ATV from scratch, namely an Utility ATV..
I have all the parts needed: a 175cc 2-stroke aircooled motorcycle engine, a gearbox, a set of offroad wheels, and basically all the components, excluding the frame, which im gonna weld myself.

I've been planning this project for nearly 2 months now and i wrote a long long story about it in my previous attempt to post this thread, before my browser crashed ( oh the joy i felt after that :p ) ..

I'm using the Yamaha Bruin 250 ( 230cc ) 2-stroke aircooled 2x4 ( 230kg=600pounds ) for the goal/example of my project ( i've named it Terra ) .
here's a comparison of the two: http://www.hot.ee/nasimuto2/atv/
and heres a blog with a few pictures of the machine: http://www.hot.ee/atvblog/ ( scroll down; sry, everything is in estonian ) .

The ATV is gonna have a suspension identical to the Bruin, which is:
2 motorcycle shocks in front
1x snow mobile front shock ( quite stiff - im 80kg=176pounds and i can compress it only a few centimetres/~ 1 inch ) - pictured here: http://www.hot.ee/atvweb/terra_rear_shock.jpg
I have about 200 A4 format pages of scetches and calculations and a whole 60mb apache-dirlisted website with lotsa pictures, but the web is down because it got too many hits and my friend, nor me didnt have money to pay for the traffic :(

Anyways,
I've calculated and planned everything very scientifically because i want to keep the cost down, the weight down and the quality high :)
I've calculated everything, except the suspension..
So I ask:
Is there any way to calculate the module of elasticity of the shock unit pictured in the terra_rear_shock.jpg ?
..the shock unit comprising of the spring and/or the cylinder aswell ( i think the gas used is O2=air - the shock itself is a RYB, with serial no: 4AA-22259-40 )
Using that value i could determine the 'stifness/softness' of the whole suspension and see if it is fit for light to medium off-road, aswell as gravel drive on low speeds ( below 40-50 km/h = 25-30mph )
The weight of the ATV is planned in the range of 200-250kg = 440-550 pounds.

Also, if anyone know a site about building an ATV from scratch, please let me know - because to my knowledge, they are quite rare.. :|
