I have a 3000 sq foot house and installed a Sears Kenmore 3000 18-gal central humidifier 6 years ago. This is their largest capacity model.
From the years usuage, I have not seen the Kenmore is very effective. I once ran a test, putting a humidistat in the center of the great room and running the fan for 24 hours. The humidistat barely barged. A same test run with a Holmes 12-gal standalone unit moved the humidistat quite a bit. I even called the service man back to adjust the Kenmore, but the result was minimal.
Anyway, now the media motor on the Kenmore is dead. The parts and shipping cost about $50. I could pay the price to repair the Kenmore, which is uneffective, or pay more to get a better unit. I am thinking getting an Aprilaire 600 or 700.
From your experience, am I going to be better off with a new Aprilaire? If not, what would you recommend?
Thanks.
