Hi,

I recently bought a used monitor heater. It is a model GF 500 heater. How can I tell if it is gas or propane. I know it has to do with the orifice, where is that located?

Thanks, Tom

It should be stamped on the rating plate. Where do you intend to use this heater. I'm not familar with that name. Explain type please

It has to do with all the orifice's even the pilot light. Also does the gas valve have a pressure regulator in it are is it locked out for LP. Some times the orifice are stamped to size #you could check that out on a orifice chart. you will find the orifice in the pipe that the burners like set on or come off of.

The orifice is located at the end of the burner tube where it enters into the combustion chamber. Remove the front grille and you will see it on the left. The directions on how to change from lp to ng are inside the right section on a sticker mounted on the left. (left side of right side section). All the monitors are electronic ignition so you don't have to worry about a pilot.
